The Nickle Tour
Location: USS Chesty Puller
Mac boarded the Puller after her meeting with the General and went straight to the CO's Ready Room where she would have access to every aspect of the ship. She walked through the door and looked around at the sparsely furnished office then went over to the replicator and said, "coffee. Black. Strong." A few seconds later a steaming cup of coffee appeared on the pad and she picked it up, taking a sip. "Hmmm...passable," she mumbled and walked over to the desk. Sitting down she called up the ship's layout...studied it for a while (making notes in a PADD)...then called up the Puller's weaponry. As she scrolled through the ship's compliment of Photon torpedoes and phaser banks she took notes. She sipped at her coffee as the ship's shields. She then called up the specs on the Puller's propulsion and, instantly, frowned. There was a huge chunk of data missing. "Well," she said aloud to the empty office. "It says here," she sat back in her chair and took a sip of her coffee. "...that we can cruise at Warp 6...can max her out at 8.8 and sustain 9.2 for 12 hours but there is nothing to tell me what we have under the hood. Interesting." She took another sip of her coffee. "Computer...why is the ship's propulsion systems in the database?"
=^=That information is not available.=^=
"I see that," Mac said, rolling her eyes. "Why is is not available?" she asked, looking at the ceiling as if that was who she was talking to.
=^=That information is not available.=^=
Mac took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "This is Major Katherine McPhearson. Executive Officer. Security Clearance Code 53 Alpha 29 Tang Delta. I need to see the information on this ship's propulsion systems," she said, slowly losing her patience.
=^=Unable to comply.=^=
Mac sat up and slammed her cup down on the desk...spilling some of the coffee out of it and yelled, "why the frack not?" Before the computer could respond the entry chime sounded and Mac looked up at the open door.
Kragg walked through and said, "Hello, Major. How is everything going for you? Is there anything I can do?"
"Oh everything is hunky dorey, Commander," Mac said, sarcastically. "Especially if you like being told you can't access pertinent data about the ship." She wheeled her chair to the replicator on the wall behind the desk and said, "dry towel," then grabbed it when it appeared and wheeled back over to the desk. As she proceeded to clean up the spilled coffee she asked, "and who might you be?"
Kragg said, "I am Lieutenant Commander Kragg Chief Security and the Second Officer of the ship, Major. I transferred from the USS Eclipse. The missing information is odd, I'll ask Captain Griffin what is going on with that."
Mac halfway stood up and extended her hand across the desk. "Major McPhearson," Mac said, introducing herself. "Have a seat. You saved me a trip to your office," she added.
Kragg sat down and said, "Glad I could make things easier for you. I'll do what I can about the engine information, it doesn't make sense."
"I was going to come down to see you once I had reviewed all of the ship's specs and figured out what crew we have," Mac said.
"I spoke to Gen. Jester this morning and he wanted us to focus on making sure we have a full compliment of shuttles and that they are ready to go at a moment's notice. I know that as CoS that isn't your area of expertise but until we have a CO...you and I are running things," she said, lifting her coffee cup to take a sip then realizing that she had spilled what was in it. "Want something to drink?" she asked as she rolled her chair back to the replicator.
Kragg smiled and said, "Ractagino, please, Major."
Quinn ordered Kragg's drink...and hers....and used her heels to scoot her chair back over to the desk. She set Kragg's drink on the desk in front of him and took a sip of hers as she sat back in her chair. "So what do we have for shuttles and pilots?" she asked.
Kragg took a sip and rather enjoyed it. He then replied with, "I haven't spoken with Lieutenant Yeager, but I have checked the inventory and we still need to get them from the base at the moment. I was planning to talk with Commander Miller about getting them."
The names he was spouting meant nothing to Mac so she let them slide. "What about pilots? Do we have the personnel yet?" she asked.
Kragg laughed, "We need those too, Major. Its going to be a while until we get underway, unfortunately."
Mac rolled her eyes. "So much for the General's desire to test our shuttles' readiness," she said. Shaking her head she asked, "so do we have any staffed departments?"
Kragg said, "We do, Major. Flight Control, Tactical, Medical and Engineering are all staffed." He said proudly.
Mac took one last sip of her coffee and set her cup on the desk as she got to her feet and straightened her uniform. "Then, Commander...how about you give me the nickle tour?" she said and walked around the desk.
Kragg said, "Yes, lets go."
