Losing an assistant

Posted on Sat Aug 12th, 2017 @ 2:23pm by Commander Sean "Shack" Byrnes

Mission: Creatures in the Corner
Location: Security
Timeline: current

With the ship loaded and all his Security people now able to look to their own duties aboard Eclipse, Byrnes stood in the main brig area near to his office. He was leaning back against a wall, head back, taking a few moments to himself and enjoying the cool feeling the wall put through the material of his uniform.

"Commander Byrnes."

His eyes coming open as he lifted his head Shack looked to the watch desk, seeing Washburn and two men in gold he did not recognize. Pushing off the wall he came over. "Lieutenant Commander Byrnes, what can I help you with?"

"We're here to relieve you of one Lieutenant Dejan, Commander. He's wanted for questioning and is involved in a long standing investigation. Apologies for the inconvenience."

Taking the offered PADD with orders, Shack read it. Apparently, his Assistant Chief had been involved in unscrupulous activities, none of which Byrnes was allowed to know, and Casran was being escorted to a court martial. There were several notations about Dejan and criminal negligence, leading to the injury or death of fellow crew. "He's in his quarters, gentlemen. Washburn, I'll take the desk. Escort these men to Dejan's quarters and see them to the gangway." Without reaching out to shake hands Byrnes turned and sat down as Washburn got up.

"You heard the Commander," said Washburn. "This way, fellas." They left the chamber.

Byrnes, once they were gone, leaned back in his chair, sighed heavily, and rubbed his face and eyes. "Seems the only good news I'll be getting is in regards to Cass," he said cynically, getting up to walk the room and check forcefield emitters. After about twenty minutes Washburn had called and informed Shack that Dejan was no longer aboard, nor marked as crew for the USS Eclipse. Acknowledging, Byrnes went back to work, but this time with more pep in his step. One small cinder was doused.
