Taking the reins

Posted on Sat Dec 9th, 2017 @ 1:08am by Captain Jamie T. Kirk

Mission: USS Sovereign
Location: bridge
Timeline: current

ON:

Arriving on deck 2, Kirk made her way to the Captain's quarters, the doors opening as per Kahn's orders to the computer and the logs. Jamie had seen Azala wear a particular shirt, one still used by some captains in the fleet since it was still regulation. Going into the bedroom she went to the closet and walked inside, seeing what she was looking for hanging up and clean. Removing her uniform blouse and mock neck shirt, Kirk pulled the new shirt (Kirk's Captain's variant shirt from TOS, green. See newest bio pic) over her head and then checked herself in the mirror, making sure her hair was good and straightening the cloth. It was as good as it was going to get, and would mark her as being in the new position Kahn had put her in. Sighing, Kirk looked at herself in the mirror. "Can you do this? Yes, you can do this."

Departign the CO's quarters Kirk entered the lift and arrived on the bridge. Stepping out Jamie went driectly to the SCI II console, tapping away with her new command codes, bringing up the last orders given by Kahn before she fell unconscious, and she fed that time stamp to every reader board on the ship. She felt the deck officer staring at her, and slowly, the rest of the bridge crew. She could feel the eyes burning into her, and the confusion was just as prevalent. Stepping away from SCI II, Kirk made her way to the center of the bridge, turning aft to face her crew. HER crew, she was still coming to grips with that. Commander Miller was not on the bridge at this time, so he would have to hear it the same way as the rest of the ship. "Tactical, shipwide broadcast, please." The nod of ready was given.

"Attention, crew of the Sovereign. This is Jamie T. Kirk, acting captain by order of Captain Kahn, assuming command of the USS Sovereign. Duty officers so note the time stamp in the ship's logs. I expect the same level of duty from all of you that Captain Kahn did. Until I am removed from this position I will do my best to command this ship and complete our mission. Thank you. Captain Kirk, out." She got the nod that the intercomm was now off.

Kirk looked around the bridge, at all the experienced faces, seeing doubt in some eyes, but no one protested. Colt gave her a crooked grin and a wink, which made her want to smile but she kept it down. "In the immortal words of Andrew Boyd. Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors." Spinning slowly around in place, meeting eyes and giving nods as much as receiving them, Jamie began to feel more comfortable. "We shall move forward, we shall succeed. Thank you for your support and guidence in the days to come. As you were."

Before they all returned to their duties the bridge crew who were sitting stood and applauded along with those who were already on their feet. Kirk's cheeks flushed, but she gave numerous nods of the head and smiled, the acceptance being a weight lifted from her shoulders. "Okay, okay, settle down and get to work." The crew went back to work so Jamie spun to look at her helm. "Colt, resume course at warp six. Engage." Watching the window Kirk saw the stars flare, stretch, and then they were at light speed, the warp envelope now a hazy blue-white blur as they moved.

Moving over to Tactical, Kirk got in beside the young LT. jg there. "Lock down the Captain's quarters until further notice. Also, let's change or jamming frequency, shall we? You know, something creative that represents us...I got it." She gave a grin, tapping keys and putting in what she wanted for the jamming signal. "It will loop over and over while jamming is active." Picking up an earbud she placed it in ehr left ear and listened, hearing the song choice she had decided to use.

"Gone Sovereign"

Original Artist: Stone Sour

No one's laughing now, no one's laughing now
I'm sullen and sated and you can't put a price on me
I won't share this disarray, I won't pull these hands away
I need to be chosen and my God don't pray for me

So scatter all my ashes when I'm dead
And shatter every legend in my head
If only the committed will survive
Is anybody here still left alive?

This is mine!

go no further, you go too far
I'm running 'round in circles once again
If you can't forgive me, I won't take it very hard
But I won't make it easy in the end

So scatter all my ashes when I'm dead
And shatter every legend in my head
If only the contented will survive
Is anybody here still left alive?

This is mine!
This is mine!
Yeah!

So scatter all my ashes when I'm dead
And shatter every legend in my head
If only the committed will survive
Is anybody here still left alive?

This is mine!
Mine!
Mine!
Mine!

Picking up another earpiece she handed it to the Lt. "Care for a listen?"

The Lt. took the earbud and placed it in an ear, and within moments his head was headbanging slightly to the beat, a grin on his face. "Very unconventional, Captain. I think it will have your desired affect."

"That's the idea," said Kirk with a smile. "Drive them batty with a bit of metal." She leaned over closer, speaking low. "Plus, I love to play the drums to this one and Absolute Zero, good times." She wagged her brows as she straightened. Giving the man a pat on the shoulder she walked around to her chair and sat down. Deep inside she was still anxious, afraid of making simple mistakes, but to the crew she would look to be in control, at all times, and swore to herself to never use the phrase 'I don't know'. As the CO she would always have to know, to appear to have the answers the crew needed, and she would do so. Taking up the reports PADD, Kirk began to read and check them off.
